Ivies 2011

hey. So guess what? The list of top however many schools just came out this month.. and Bowdoin is in the top twenty! Thats right.. right up their with Harvard, Yale, Brown and all those others! :)

On that note. This week its IVIES!
Ivies are a BIG DEAL here at Bowdoin. I mean people look forward to Ivies all year!
Shirts and sunglasses and Ivies apparel is sold, lots of planning is put into what bands will perform, lots of people from other colleges come visit, lots of money is spent and pretty much everyone but me is drunk and high all week. (one of my teacher even cancelled class because she didn't want to be teaching to a bunch of drunk people) Works for me!

So what exactly is IVIES?
(It is pronounced "I-V's: just saying because my dad was pronouncing it wrong)
I am not exactly positive but they say it has to do something with 142 years ago Bowdoin was offered to be in the IV leagues if we changed like one little thing about the school. But Bowdoin didn't want to and  so now we celebrate declining the last week of every April.

Its SUPER fun. They have lots of concerts and parties! Today was PERFECT weather. Like 58 degrees all day! They had a concert and bbq so pretty much our entire school was outside on the field. Everyone just hung out and such! I love the fact that our whole school can fit on one field! I know people say going to a small college with only 2000 kids would stink but I LOVE IT!
(but not everyone was there and over half the Junior class is out of country so it was less than 2000)

I mostly just "people watched" at all the Ivies actives but it was still really fun!

Also... my dad was here this weekend and mom last weekend. It was SO fun having them here. I will put up pictures later!

Today was a fairytale. (minus the boy part) hA.

It was seriously was just a:
kind of a day.
You know when you can't stop smiling for NO reason? Yup. Thats today.

I know I say this a LOT but I am in love with the kids I work with at Bowdoin Day Care.
I wish I could adopt each and every one of them. Today I could not stop laughing at everything they were saying. Next week is my last week with them... WAAA. So sad. I just love them. I don't think I am legally allowed to take pictures of them but I am going to try and sneak some! :) I feel like a rebel. HA.

On a different subject...  I know most all my friends are done with their freshmen year already and I still have two weeks left to go.. but I still can't come to grips with it. I can not believe how fast the year has gone by. I truly feel like I just started. Time is flying.

Here are some things I am going to miss about Bowdoin:
1. The food. I am going to miss never having to cook my own food or do the dishes. Being able to fulfill what ever craving I am currently having and just having meals with friends.
2. I am going to miss looking out my window into the quad and seeing tons of people outside laying in the grass or playing frisbee. (this is only recent since the snow has melted)
3. The feeling after turning in a paper. I LOVE that after you work really hard on something and that moment of turning in the final project is the bomb.
4. Having nothing ever get lost because my room is so small that everything is so neat and organized. I have not lost ANYTHING since I have been here. HOOYAY.
5. Getting mail. Now that I will be home I will no longer be getting letters and packages from my friends... but I get to be with them which is WAY better. But still.
6. Hearing all the crazy weekend stories from my friends. Things that would surly never happen at home but are totally normal here. So funny to listen to them.
7. My job and internship. I LOVE IT.
8. I shall miss all the incredible people I have met here. I have learned A LOT of good things from them. Good thing I will see them next year. (minus one person.. Rockie Road haha :D)

There are many other things I will miss too but those are some of my top.

Now.. things I could not be more excited for.
1. Hanging out with all my friend NON-STOP and laughing 24/7. I really like my AZ friends if you didn't know.
2. Getting super tan with Christina. Oh baby yeah.
3. Being able to shower without having to wear flip flops and unclog the drain full of 12 girls hair.
4. Having a car. I LOVE DRIVING.
5. Not having to do any school reading. Only wonderful books that I choose to read. (there are a lot on my list.. yeah for tanning and reading)
6. Going on dates. YEAH. So fun.
7. Having Thursday picnics with McKenzie and all the adventures that come with it.
8.  Getting a job... ehh Kinda excited for this one. But its necessary.
9. Being with my family and redecorating our house.
10. Just being home! I LOVE ARIZONA. Yay.

Its crazy to think that I will be in Arizona in 34 days.
That sounds long but part of it is going to be on a road trip with my boyzzz. WOO.

I am super excited for everything that is happening the weeks coming.
I can't wait to see what the future holds.
I have a feeling it is going to be great!

I LOVE THEM.
YAY for being able to change your hair. Its seriously so fun!!!!

These streets will make you feel brand new, big lights will inspire you. Lets hear it for New York

Honestly.. I really don't like that song. But it just fit, so i went with it.

Can I just say New York was incredible! Though it was so short I loved every second of being back with my lovely Swedes. I am super busy with.. LIFE so I don't have time to really blog all about it but here is a slight summary of the FUN we had.
It has been 10 months since I have seen these amazing ladies... way to long may I say.
But once we were together if felt like we were never apart. I loved it :)
This was us last year in New York and this Year.
We decided we are going to have an annual trip to every year.
2010                             2011
Yes I know.. be bought ugly matching dresses last year and thought we were hilarious :)

Here are some pictures for the trip.

My Swede :)

and Aman-DOOOOO

We spend a lot of time shopping, eating at amazing restaurants, exploring the city, making crazy fun dance videos and just having fun hanging out.

I LOVE these GIRLS. Such a Great trip :)

Hi my name is Amy.

and I am an addict.
It is 1am and I can't fall asleep.
This is the reason:
 Breakfast.
I seriously lay in bed and can't wait for breakfast.
I stress out over what I should have the next day and simply can wait.

Tomorrow I am thinking waffle with strawberries & hot chocolate.
Morning... Please come fast. I can't wait for you :)

Nothing better than a Productive day.

I had LOTS to do today! I mean TONS.

I leave for New York in three days and have to get all my work done for the next week.
Then my parents are coming so i wanted to get ahead even more so that when they are here I don't have to be working. Which means two weeks worth of work piled into one weekend So this consisted of LOTS of Reading and 3 papers! Fun.
Also.. because we are driving back I need to ship everything home. So this morning I did MAJOR spring cleaning. I mean.. took my dorm room apart cleaning, did laundry, took down the trash, swept.. you know the works. I packed up the winter clothes and everything I am shipping home. My room feels kinda empty! ha.

So this may not see like tons but... When I woke up today I was thinking what in the world have I gotten myself into.

I am happy to say that I may good progress. I still have to study for a huge test and finish a book, and one more paper but I feel like i have it under control.

Even though productive days may not be that fun...
Knowing that you worked so hard and accomplished things is a wonderful feeling. :)

Mission calls make me..

HAPPY.
My roommate would vouch for me that every time I get a call from one of my friends that they got a mission call, all of Bowdoin finds out.
I seriously was running down the hall and yelled.. Anna guess what??
"I already heard you" she laughed!
Its not my fault that is SO flippin exciting.
SO GUESS WHO GOT THEIR CALL TODAY?
Jackson Kelley Graves :) :) Yup Yup Yup.
He was called to the: Ireland and Scotland mission.
and will be attending the England MTC.
And anyone that know him knows that that is the PERFECT mission for him.

I honestly can not say how excited I am for him. Jackson is already a missionary and example to EVERYONE who meets him. He is just one of those people that everyone loves and wants to be around. And I lucked out to have his as a friend! YAY!

He gets to be surrounded by this beauty for two years.
Not to forget the fact that irish accents are the bomb.
My brother and roomie say I stink at them because I went though a "Top of the morning to Ya" Irish accent phase. But thats okay.. I can try can't I. (on a side note Taylor Swift is BOMB at Irish accents. She was my inspiration to it! hA. and Mariah Martinsen is not to bad herself) :)

And even GREATER news is that I am going to denmark on an exchange with a possibly semester stay in Ireland. Not that I would see him but the idea that we would be in the same country is cool okay??? OKAY :)
This is the school I would be going to: University College Cork
It's a partnering school with Bowdoin.
I will tell you more about my exchange plans later.. I met with my Advisor about it yesterday.. EXCITING NEWS coming your way!
I am not going to get myself to excited though! But YAY!

Anywho I am still waiting for Tommys mission call.
But For right now I am very happy cause most all my other friends have theirs! :)
Like I said in the the other Mission Call posts I have the best guy friends in the entire world! My mom was joking that I am going to have no friends for the next two years! HA.
I am  beyond happy and everyday one of my friends gets a call is a wonderful day. Today was a very very good one. I kinda Love LIFE!
All my friends are going on to do incredible things! They are surly going far in life.

Very Grateful.

So last night my wonderful friend Stephen was injured.
That boy right thuurrrr...
He was playing basketball at the gym, jumped into a foam pit and seriously hurt his neck and spinal cord breaking something ( i forgot the name of the bone. hA)
While I was in the library last night I got a call from my friend Thomas telling me what happened and that we were having a group fast for him. Let me just tell you that is not a fun call to get. But he was currently in surgery and so his condition was not completely known since neck injuries are very serious. I called a few of his other close friends and told them what happened and  to keep him in their prayers.
Later that night one of my friends, Josh skyped me from the hospital, he said Amy look at this as he spun the camera around. The entire waiting room was PACKED with his ward and friends. All of my best friends sitting their supporting him through his surgery. Then to think about all this other friends in Arizona and such all around fasting and praying for him. Hundreds of people! It was such a neat moment to see all the love being showered upon Stephen even though he wouldn't even see it. Just the idea that all my best friends were sitting there for him was very humbling seeing, everyone put their faith in the lord.
I have one amazing group of friends. The best.
Today I found out that Stephens surgery went well and that he will be in ICU for 3-4 more weeks. Neck injuries don't always turn out the best and to know that our prayers were answered is wonderful. Prayer is such an incredible thing! :)
Stephen still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. But with prayer and the support of his wonderful family and friends I know he will totally get through it.
He is one amazing boy!
We love you Stephen.

Thursday night boredom.

This is what my roomie and I do on Thursday nights. Try to make a video for my blog.
Unsuccessfully.
I love college dorms :)

Elevator Buttons and Morning Air.

Don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine

 I kinda like that song.

Anywho Ladies and Gents... Lets get to it.

My dear McKenzie Merchant introduced me to this website called pinterest.com around an hour ago. Lets just say i am already addicted. It is basically a sight full of pictures ranging from weddings to home design to travel to anything and everything else. Many cute ideas going on in that place. When you first get to the website you are like "this is so not cute." But as they say: Don't Judge a Book By its Cover.
So.. basically you should check it out and go CrAzY!

I've got Sunshine.

On a SUNNY Dayyyy :)
Today it is so beaUTiful. 55 degrees and sunny.
Everyone was outside and in shorts.  Made me SO HAPPY!

So fun to see all the people just out and about in our tiny quad.
Yeah.. I know our grass is really dead because of the snow. I promise it is normally pretty :)

I just laid out on a blanket. Turned on some music and studied... Well tried to anyways.
I played some frisbee with some friends and people watched. So relaxing.

Directly behind me in the picture is a museum.
While I was sitting there I was like.. hmm..
"I pass every single day and have never been inside."
So me myself and I went to the museum. Probably a good thing though.
Because I wanted to read every little fact. I LOVED IT.
The exhibit this month was on the bible. Genesis to be exact.
I tried to take pictures but got yelled at. HA. People these days! :)
Then upstairs was just tons of artwork. Really neat to see how talented people are.

After I headed into our student union and there was a Baptist church service going on...

So I bought a drink from the cafe, got a comfy seat upstairs and watched.
Let me tell you.. these people can sing.
Lots of "Amen" "Hallelujah" and "Praise Jesus" going on!
Here is a video of them singing "Right on King Jesus"

Then after singing for a while they had a sermon and lesson and such.
I was working on a paper during it but kinda listened at the same time. It was really neat!
I love how so actives many are always going on.
So many new things to learn all the time!
I love new experiences. Even if they are just simple. So grateful for them!

You make me Happy!

Whether you Know it or not! :)
Today was full of joy.
I didn't go to class and spent from 8:30-3:30 playing with kids.
SO FUN.
Have a mentioned I LOVE kids? Cause I do.
It was neat being around normal kids all day for a change. Playing kick ball and four square.
(Let me just say I got WOOPED. I have lost all my four square talent from back in the day) HA.
Don't get me wrong. I ADORE my kids at work, but I didn't have to worry about being screamed at or having to deal with crazy imaginary friends!

Then this afternoon I talked to some of my favorite people in the world.
Thomas. Sydney and Jackson.
Have I also mentioned how much I love my arizona friends?? Cause it is a LOT.

I can't believe I am going to be done with my freshmen year soon.
For 18 years I prepared to attend college and now a year has gone by. Time seriously goes by so fast. It makes you grow to appreciate things so much more
Makes me so grateful for all my blessings.
HAPPY FRIDAY!
p.s Just tonight I was on the phone talking about  how so many girls go to hair school.
Well later tonight my roommate was like want to cut my hair and I was like YEAH!!! I am not talking a trim people i am taking a freakin 8 inches....
Lets just say its harder than it looks. I don't know if she will be recommending me any time soon :) Maybe i should go to hair school! HA!

13.1 miles of Happiness

Today was wonderful.
I woke up, bundled up, and was off to "RACE THE RUNWAY."
My second Half marathon.
{my friend Nina and I before the race}

It was seriously SOO cold this morning. It was 24 degrees out when we started but super windy which made it FREEZING.
When I reached mile 4 I was finally able to feel my feet a little! :)

Every time I do a road race I am amazed by all the people that are out active and running. There were 800 people total in all three race. (1 mile, 5k, 1/2 marathon)
Which it practically half of Maine's population! HA.
Its so fun to see all these old people, couples, college kids out running.
It sounds cheesy but I am so grateful I love running because it is something I can do my entire life. My husband better be or a runner. Or I am converting him... just sayin!

{I took this while running. Around mile 8}

Overall I had a SUPER fun time. Except now i am SO sore. Thats what I get for not training. I didn't even go to dinner tonight because I didn't want to walk down 4 flights of stairs it hurts so bad! HA.

So i was done with the 1/2 Marathon and back at school by 11 am.
Then I got to watch CONFERENCE.
So many incredible talks. I feel so rejuvenated from it. And there is still one more day! YES! :)
"Fear not, Be of good cheer, Your future is as bright as your Faith"

Finally I waddled my way to the library and worked for a while and finished a lot of work!
Don't you love productive days? I Do.
I am one happy girl! YAY LIFE!

Happy April.

Happy April 1st.
The idea of it being April just makes me so excited! I just want to spin around in a field of flowers in the warm sun!....  Just the though makes me giddy with joy!
Then I look out my window at the 6 inches of snow we got today! HA. Maine is a little behind on this whole Spring thing! But I am still thrilled for this month.

SOOO many fun things are happening. I am beyond happy about all of them but it makes me a little scared that I am going to fall behind on my school work. I keep telling myself I need to be super productive and use every free second I have to get ahead! YAY!

Enough about that though. Let me tell you WHY I am so HAPPY about APRIL!

One reason is that I get to see THIS girl! :)

YUP! Thats right! We are going to the BIG APPLE together!
HELLO NEW YORK CITY.

She has spring break in April so she is flighting out!
Oh how I have missed my little SWEDE! Its will be a short trip since I can't miss that much school, so her SWEDISH jet lag will probably be bad. But it will be so worth it.

Also. I just found out BOTH my parents are coming to visit me!

YAY and they are coming different weekends because their work schedules did not match up! Which in a way makes me even MORE excited because that means two weekends in a row I get to be with my parents! SERIOUSLY. I am THRILLED.

So every weekend in April is basically going to be a PARTY! I am so excited.
