Simply Incredible!

I cannot express in words what an amazing time I had with the Martinsen’s in Costa Rica! It was the perfect refresher for me. Besides constantly laughing at Abram, squeezing and kissing Emma and Lora to death because they are seriously the cutest things to walk this planet, talking about life with Mother and Father Martinsen, and many late nights of playing hand and foot,  I had so many incredible once in a life time experiences with Mariah!

There is nothing more breath taking then galloping horses down the beach! Partly because I could not breath since I was laughing so hard watching Mariah, I though I was going to fall off for sure. Every time I even I even looked at her I bursted out laughing. I don’t really know why but the whole situation seemed funny not to mention we were bouncing all over and Mariah’s horse had a little mind of his own. As Mariah said “he is like a touchy car”! It was simply amazing though! I will seriously never forget it!

Later that day we also went surfing! Lets just say Mariah and I are not going into surfing as a profession or anything! It was really fun though when I did get it! Except I got smashed around in the water way more!

Once we were down surfing we drove down to another beach and the waves were INCREDIBLE!!!! I cant even describe how much fun we had! Miah, Abram and I went out and literally just rode and dived through all the waves! We would take turns doing “tricks” I guess through them! In the water they have “Sea Lice” which is jelly fish eggs floating around! And when they touch you it stings SOOO bad! So we all were covered ! But we were having so much fun we didn’t get out of the water! So we would just scream all the time and itch all over! We were laughing so hard! It was hilarious! People probably thought we were crazy!

So the next day Mariah and I seriously could NOT move! I have never been so sore in my entire life! Our backs and bums were super sore from the horses and arms were sore from surfing! Then I was all sun burnt so it hurt to move and Mariah feel crab catching so she was all bruised up! It was quite hilarious actually! So in the morning we just rested and tried to stand up for starters! Finally we geared up and went zip lining! It was so enjoyable! We got to up side down on two of them and it was fun zipping through the luscious green Costa Rican trees!

On Saturday Mariah’s branch  had a YSA activity, so though we did not really feel like going we figured we would because it was only a couple of hours! Well, when we got on the bus we found it was ALL day! 8am-7pm! So we were stuck in the middle of the jungle with 30 people that did not speak English! (well 2 did) HA. Well lets just say we both ended up having an awesome time! We went on a hike to a water fall, rode horses, held a parrot, played games and danced! Those Latin boys really know how to dance let me tell you! And once again every time I looked over at Mariah I would burst out laughing! The guys we were dancing with were just salsa dancing us all over the tiny dance floor! HA.

It was also super funny because they all wanted picture with us white girls! Ha. We were both in ponytails, shorts and t- shirts and were taking all these pictures with these guys! And the way they said our names cracked me up! They were always like
‘mA-RI-AH”!

Just on a side not though, all the games they played were ones that would be considered “stupid” for people their age in the US! Like hot potato, and wheel barrow races! But I have never seen people so happy in my life! They LOVED every second of it and were constantly laughing! It really makes you see how hard these people work and that they cherish every little moment! I just loved them!

So Sunday comes and both Mariah and I wake up super sick! We think it was from drinking non-pure water at the activity! So I was super out of it and became good friends with the bathroom! HA! We still went to church though! Their branch is so cute! Everyone just came up and kissed my cheek like we were best friends! I couldn’t really understand much but it was really neat just being their! So many amazing people!

Finally on Monday we went to the beach and played, laid out, and read! Then that night we went to have a bonfire on the beach! It was amazing! The sun was setting and the sky was gorgeous! The weather could not have been more perfect! We made s’mores and just hung around and talked! Then we went to go look for sea turtles! The moon was full so even though it was dark they sky was light up with it and the stars which were amazing! Mariah and I laid on the beach and starred at them and talked about our futures! I honestly cannot explain how incredible it was! Breathtaking! Anywho we saw two sea turtles heading back to the ocean! I touched on of them! Then we also saw one covering up her eggs! We sat and watched her from about 20 minutes! It was quite the experience! Nothing like it! It was a perfect night!

I honestly had the best time in Costa Rica! So many incredible memories! The Martinsen's are such an incredible family and I am so blessed to have Mariah as a best friend! They have so much love for each other and have such wonderful hearts! I seriously have not laughed that hard in a long time too and I LOVED it! That was certainly one of the best weeks ever!

HoLA Costa RiCA!

I'm finally here in Costa Rica!
Last summer I told the Martinsen's that I would come to visit and it actually all worked out and I am finally here! Its seriously like a dream!
It was SO good to see Mariah and her whole family again! I am obsessed with them.

The culture is so different here. Just like driving down the road it is the complete opposite of the states! I will blog about the culture of Costa Rica later when I get more pictures!

As for what we have been doing... it is so relaxing here! I am in total vacation mode.
Yesterday we woke up at 6:30am and once the girls got off to school we went and worked out. Since I have been in Maine anything above 50 degrees is hot and it was 95 so I got tired super fast! But it felt so good afterword!! After a delicious fresh fruit smoothie we  curled up in the hammocks outside and read! I love it! We are reading the books called the Hunger Games! I am trying to finish all three before I leave! Then Mariah and Abram both had to take a proctored test so once we dropped them off at the local school, the girls and I went grocery shopping! It was one of their Tico (Tico's mean the locals, while Americans are called Gringos) friends birthday and we were on the hunt for a Snickers! We went to 5 stores with no luck! Things are so expensive here! Like a box of cereal is $8 when converted to US currency! For dinner we had traditional Tico food for dinner- rice and beans! I really liked it though! After we went and sung happy birthday to their friend! She is so cute! Everyone here is just so sweet! It was a pretty chill day overall! Just so relaxing and I got a wonderful sense of Costa Rica!

As for today! Once again we woke up early and Mariah, her dad and I went on a hike! It was so pretty! We ended up right on the ocean and were on the only people there! Except it was quite the adventure to get there! You can read about that on Mariah's blog here! We were their for three hours and it was so fun!! We went fishing the entire time, but caught NADA! Mariah and I were not that great to say the least! Her dad was trying to teach us but we never got the hang of it! You don't have a fishing pole but rather a reel, so we would only get it out a few feet! ha. We were so determined to catch a fish though and it gets super addicting!

It was absolutly GORGEOUS though! While we were hanging around down there we saw a sea turtle and a few manta rays! plus there were crabs EVERYWHERE! Mariah and I were determined to not only catch a fish but a crab! I caught one under my food but accidentally squished it in the process. Then when Mariah was trying a huge wave hit and she slipped! Cutting up all fours! Poor thing! It was seriously so fun though, and SO pretty!

Later in the day we went to go surfing but the tide was so low! So we ended up just playing in the waves! Some were pretty big! I got knocked around quite a few times! The water was so nice though! We were in there for quite awhile!

It is seriously so much fun here though! I love being able to hang out with Mariah and do all these crazy amazing things! We have so many things planned for the rest of the week too and I can't wait!

Incredibly blessed

Its incredible the amount of blessings we are given each day. Just looking around at all the blessings and opportunities we are given takes my breath away. I seriously have SO much to be thankful for. Not to mention the fact that I don't have to live day to day! I have never had to worry about not eating for a day, or having to find somewhere to take a shower. I have always had a roof over my head and a bed to sleep in and though at many times I take if for granted, for that I could not be more thankful!

So yesterday I was flipping around and came across this show called "Secret Millionaire" Its amount millionaires who go to impoverished areas pretending to have just moved in. They actually live there for one week off of $40. Then during this time they ask around and meet local people who help out in the community. There were SO many incredible people who gave all their heart and soul to helping other people. They themselves had almost nothing and yet they still give to others. They had a passion for what they were doing and showed a genuine love for helping people. At the end of the week when she presented them all with money, words can seriously not describe the appreciation they had.

Its warms my heart to see these people who have nothing themselves giving and helping those around them. Trying to get a better life, working for it. It makes me wonder what I would be like if I was in that situation? I would like to think that I would work hard and try to make a better living for myself and others. Yet I will never know, I could just be a lazy bum who waits for others to help, but it defiantly makes you wonder. I just am honestly SO happy for those people, who work so hard to better their selves and their life. Also those that give so graciously to others. Their are so many incredible people in this world and they are the true people that should be looked up to. Those who have nothing yet still give all the love they have! They are the ones who are truly succeeding in life!

Service is such an incredible thing and I really want to start doing more!

And I really recommend the show! You should HULU it! It warms your heart!

Already Packed!

I know this is all I talk about.. but if you can't tell I am a little excited for Costa Rica!
Which is an understatement! I am PSYCHED!
Is is bad that I don't leave for 5 more days and still have midterms to study for.... but
I am already COMPLETELY packed. (besides toiletries like toothbrush and such)
(Yes! I just threw everything in! I have to go reorganize my bag too!)

I guess thats a plus to going somewhere with opposite weather!
I am not going to use any of the things I am currently using :)

Awkward Childhood!

Some people have an awkward stage! I had an entire awkward childhood! And teenage hood! ha! I seriously was looking through all our family christmas pictures and in every single one I am so weird!

This one just makes me laugh! I am holding this huge cat and my brother is wearing roller skates on a horse! ha!

Okay.. uhhh.. I don't think I knew what a hair brush was! And look at all the band aids on my legs! I seriously though they were so cool so I would wear them for fun!

EWWWW.... Ha! Everything about this picture is gross! We have a horse and pig butt! Plus a dog cover in mud! Then I am there with braces, pants past my belly button and hair slicked back and parted down the middle!

Oh but don't worry! I eventually just wore Pokemon stuff for like 6 months! Thats not uncool at all! Ha!

Travel Bug!

I have a major travel bug! I seriously can sit on my computer for HOURS researching places I want to visit. I just want to travel the world so bad! I want it to be my junior year SO bad because I can NOT wait to go on an exchange! About 75% of Juniors go on exchanges at Bowdoin and we have 150 countries to choose from! The possibilities are endless! So i know it is still  1 1/2 years till I leave but I have been looking into it big time! I really want to go to Cape Town in South Africa! I have a few friends who went their and they said like every weekend they went on safari's and to the beach and all these amazing things! Plus... the Bachelor went there and it was BEAUTIFUL! Yet at the same time if I went to Europe I could go visit lots of other countries because they are so close. Then I could also see my friends Anna and Sandra!! YAY! I can only imagine living in Italy! Ahh.. it would be my taste buds DREAM to eat all that incredible pasta! I just cant wait! All i can say is that my future husband better be super adventurous and love to travel! Cause I want to do a lot of it! YAY!

So guess what? It is official! As of yesterday we are a 100% go on our coast to coast trip! Thats right! We are driving from Maine to LA! Then back to Arizona of course! How fun is that! We are stopping in Boston, Philadelphia, New York City, Washington DC, Nashville, and Omaha just to name a few! We will be camping every night and I can not be more excited!! YAY!

With all this travel bug stuff in me it makes me even MORE excited to go to Costa Rica!! I can not wait! Seriously what could be better then another country that has no snow.. (YESSSSS) and staying with the most incredible family ever!
Woo I shall be in this:

In six day!

I hit my head....

Really really hard on the ice!
I literally was just walking and WOOOOOOSHHHH... My feet just slipped right out from under me! It hurt SO BAD! I was just lying their on my back and trying not to cry.. SO..
I started laughing. REALLY REALLY HARD!
I happened to be walking to an interview for a job. Lets just say the person probably thinks I am on drugs! I COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING! If any of you have seen me when I laugh super hard.. I can't talk! But when I finally did every other breath... I kept on going off on all these tangents and talking about random things! I told them how I am going to the Taylor Swift Concert and they I am biking there?? Uhh I don't bike! Then he asked what kind of bike I owned and I said "a good one?" Then.. ha he asked if I would be willing to lead a biking trip (the interview was for being a leader for a trip through Bowdoin's Outing club) and I told him I would be "Sick of biking by then" ha. but that I love swimming!  YEAH..... I seriously don't know what was going on in my brain. My friend after was like "you seriously need to go see if you have a concussion from your fall" hA! Anywho I found out if i get it next week.

I can't believe I lied that I am a biker! HA. seriously?? But maybe he couldn't understand from all the laughter! Maybe I do have a concussion!

Welp I am just thankful that was not a job interview for real life, cause I would have failed! HA! HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

Drum Roll Please....

These fine fellows are going to..........

AUSTRALIA!!!! ... Both of them!  :)

They are both leaving August 3rd!
I am oh so happy! I was freakin out! They probably went deaf from all my screaming!
They are going to be amazing missionaries!
Oh happy day!

Don't ya know..

I walk around and there are so many cute girls in this world!
I just want to walk up to all of them and tell them they are BEA-utiful!! Seriously I wish everyone could see how cute they truly are.

In my Gender and Women's study class we have been talking about body image and how women are suppose to "act and look." How society has these unrealistic ideals set of what is "beautiful" and if girls do not meet that criteria of the "perfect body" then they are "not succeeding in life"! We are constantly being told how to look, which is often naturally unachievable. Thus leading to anorexia, bulimia, cosmetic surgeries and so on! People spend so much time trying to "look" a certain way that it consumes their life! The idea of it breaks my heart! I honestly could talk about this subject forever but I don't want to get started cause I feel like I wouldn't be able to stop! Ha. But..
Just know I think you are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

On a different tangent.. This is my dear friend Clare:

She is the one in the middle. :)

We have had two classes together each semester and we were just together studying for our Gender and Women's study midterm.. thats how it is a tangent! HA. Look at me using my math terms!!

Okay so Clare is seriously the sweetest thing on the planet. I seriously feel like she is my life cheer leader. Plus she was my first friend here at Bowdoin! YAY! So you know that person that whatever they say about you makes you seen way more amazing then what you really are?? Yeah... thats her! Seriously if I ever needed to be uplifted thats who I would go to! She is just constantly so positive and just makes you happy! Everyone just loves her!  So not many people have seen my "real self" if that is what you would call it here at Bowdoin! But.. she has! HA! I have got pretty crazy around her and she still talks to me which is always a plus! YEAH! Anywho she was super interested in the fact that I now have a blog so I wanted to give her a "little shout out"

Well... I hope you all have the most incredible day today!
I most defiantly an going to make sure it is a good one!
